ONGOING NEGOTIATIONS

» EFTA-India FTA
Despite the strong critique of the undemocratic nature of FTA negotiations that undermine India’s federal structure, which led to the signing of the FTA between India and the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Government of India continues to silently negotiate FTAs with many countries and economic blocks. Except for a press release by the Forum against FTAs (Press release on EFTA-India 5th round), there was no public announcement, or information made public regarding the 5th round of negotiations for an FTA between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which took place in Delhi on September 22 and 23.  An independent preliminary analysis on likely financial services and intellectual property rights chapter are now available, and shed light on concerns raised by this agreement (contact us).
